Spas and Health Resorts
in Serbia
The basic characteristic of Serbian
tourist offer are diversity, namely a great variety
of tourist resources, well preserved environment, the
richness and significance of its cultural and historical
heritage, as well as the hospitalit and the friendliness
of its people.
A
great variety of tourist resources in Serbia are above
all based upon natural advantages and they are characterized
by a high degree of attractiveness and regional diversity.
The characteristics of Serbia's geographical and communicational
position, its hydrography, weather conditions, flora
and fauna, as well as of other natural qualities, are
the basis for its inclusion into the most important
international tourism tendencies.
The nature abundantly awarded the territory
of our country. Serbia is ranking itself among the richest
areas in the world for its natural healing factors,
including some 300 so far known and examined springs
of different curative mineral waters, as well as over
20 health with exceptional healing and ecological values.
Mineral waters are very diversified,
and their properties and springs abundance mainly depends
on geological composition of the area in which they
are located. Some springs appear even in the regions,
which are at the height of over 500 m above sea level,
which is exceptionally rare in the world. A great number
of curative springs have been exploited since the Roman
times. Chemical composition and physical properties,
which mainly determine water balneological characteristics
and use, are very diversified, so springs are: cold,
warm, even hot, acid, basic, neutral, barely or highly
mineralized, enriched with various chemical substances
and oligo elements.
The largest numbers of these waters
have different application possibilities and a wide
range indication area, and all together refer to almost
all diseases of contemporary mankind.
Quite often, the springs are accompanied
with the appearance of medicinal gases and mud, as a
result of interaction of
waters and soil in their surroundings. Also, the appearance
of curative radioactive waters is not unusual. Some
wells are rather powerful and enormous quantity of water
springs out of them in the form of fountain or geyser.
Since the ancient times, in the near
vicinity of some springs, settlements had been established.
Some of them date back from the Roman times. The majority
of them were arranged, urbanely and balneologically
defined in the second half of the 19th century. Already
in 1914, the special Law on Spas and Health Resorts
was passed, prescribing all regulations and vital aspects
of this significant activity, which between the two
world wars represented a main tourist offer of Serbia.
Spas are located either in the pleasant
valleys or on the hill slopes, surrounded with forests,
meadows and orchards. Their natural scenery is embellished
with well-kept surroundings, parks and footpaths. Modern
accommodation facilities, monuments, parks, sport fields
and swimming pools make the spas both cultural and entertaining
as well as sport and recreational centres.
The
number of climatic resort is not so big, but regarding
their significance and potentials they are not lagging
behind the spas. They are situated at the height from
450 to 1.500 above sea level and have the accessible
relief configuration, with very diversified vegetation
and with sub-Alpine climate, which is above all healthy
and salutary for human organism.
Primarily they are suitable for recovery,
relaxation, and treatment of some diseases and especially
for athlete's preparations. They are abundant with fresh
air, a great number of sunny days a year and with favourable
ionic structure of atmosphere. The climate is dry, with
mild winters and fresh summers, without strong winds,
fog and long rainy periods.
Texts, photos and tables explain specific
characteristics of environmental conditions, as well
as the quality of the entire infrastructure, thus stipulating
and specifying spas and climatic resorts offer.
It is essential to point our that none
of these places has any contraindications for human
health, that all of them are provided with suitable
technical and accommodation facilities as well as with
personnel with rich experience not only for treatment
but also for the recovery and relaxation of people.
A careful reader will quite easily
