6. HORGOŠ-SUBOTICA - NOVI
SAD - BEOGRAD (174 km)
One
border crossing from Hungary lies close to Horgoš and
19 km far from it there is Palić,
a well-known holiday destination with its lake as remnant
o by-gone Panonian Sea. The region is known for its
cuisine and good wine. Subotica lies 8 km away and it
is the second largest town of Vojvodina.
Novi
Sad is 100 km far from Subotica. It is the economic,
political, cultural and university center lying on the
left bank of the Danube. Across the river on the right
bank there is the famous Petrovaradin
fortification a masterpiece of 18 C fortification
architecture covering 112 hectares being one of the
best preserved forts in this part of Europe.
Fruška
Gora lies 20 km far from Novi Sad. It is a national
park and excursion point of both citizens of Novi Sad
and Beograd.
There are some dozen monasteries
there.

Breg-Sombor-Backa Palanka-Novi Sad-Beograd (185 km)
From Backi Breg, the border crossing
via Bezdan with excellent fishing spots in the vicinity,
the road leads to Sombor, and 16 km far from it there
is Apatin with the Danube sections abundant in fish
and hunting grounds with famous Danube stags.
Southward of Sombor the road leads through a number
of typical villages of Vojvodina, hunting grounds and
abundant fishing sections. From Backa Palanka, near
the Danube bank, the road via Novi Sad continues to
Beograd.
From Novi
Sad to Beograd
the road follows the slopes of Fruška
Gora on the other side of which and 8 km far from
Novi Sad there is a historical town let Sremski Karlovci
once an important cultural Serbian centre. There is
Stražilovo nearby, an excursion point with a monument
dedicated to Branko Radicevic, a poet. Drivers wishing
to get from Novi Sad to Beograd speedily can drive along
the highway Novi Sad – Beograd.

(205 km)
Beograd can be reached from the border
crossing of Horgoš by road leading across the fertile
plain of Banat via Kanjiža, a spa with thermal water
on the bank of the river Tisa and a modern rehabilitation
centre. Then via Senta, a town known for its parks lying
on the banks of the river Tisa, too. Then via Becej
to Zrenjanin with areas good for fishing and hunting
swamp fowls.
Romanian border (Vatin)-Vršac-Pancevo-Beograd
(97 km)
From Temisoara in Romania the road
crosses the border at Vatin and 15 km southward there
is Vršac an agricultural center known for its high quality
grapes and wine. Between Vršac and Pancevo the road
leads across Deliblatska pešcara, sandy desert with
interesting flora and fauna.
Pancevo is a 16 km far from Beograd on the confluence
of the river Tamiš and the Danube. The most interesting
cultural and historical monuments are the following
ones: churches Uspenska and Preobraženska, Franjevacki
(Franciscan) monastery, the old Town hall. Nearby there
are villages of Kovacica and Uzdin, known for their
self-taught painters.
